I will walk 500 miles challenge for Velindre

We had thought that today we would complete the walk from Ceibwr Bay to Poppit sands but as it was if anything hotter today than yesterday and we had a 2 and a half hour journey back to our house afterwards, we decided just to walk from Poppit to Cemaes and back. So having checked out from a really great stay, definitely recommendable at the Trewern Arms , we parked up at Poppit in hot sun!! Off we set up the road back to the coast path. And here was Gate number 1! Don't beleive that was there 8 years ago.... Did remember the farm we had to pass through and loved the quotes on his barn doors... hope you can read them.... Michael and Chris waited patiently! Once we were at the top, it was beautiful to look down on Cardigan Island and Mwnt peeping over with the Llyn in the distance! It was quite useful finding these viewpoints with a handy rock to enjoy it from! And there was the view back down to Poppit sands.... Think Jill and I could be sitting there still! Perfect place... We had chosen to stay in Nevern so we could walk this stretch of the Pembroke coast path and this route like yesterday's, were shortened versions of those we had walked 8 years ago. having enjoyed a lovely evening and a good sleep, we returned to Newport to leave a car and all went back to Ceibwr Bay to set off. As you see, it was a glorious day! We watched the waves crashing on the rocks covered in thrift now going to seed and with Cemaes Head in the back ground. There was Cemaes Head somewhere we hoped to reach tomorrow maybe! The coastline is just so magnificent and we once again tried to imagine the heat needed to make the rock strata so varied. Here and there the great needles of rock, perfect for nesting birds! Again a really clear day seeing down to Strumble Head lighthouse and our walk of yesterday, Dinas Head a little closer luckily as we would finish around there later in the day. Jill had thought Dinas Head was whale shaped, and so it is. Would we see whales and dolphins...

My niece, Jill and husband, Michael had said back in September at their son's wedding that they would like to join us on our walk so we had fixed these dates a little while ago when it still seemed some time away but suddenly the dates were upon us! Like many people have said, this year seems to be going faster than ever! We had arranged to meet up at Newport Sands on the Pembroke coast and Jill and Michael had travelled from their home in Scotland to spend the previous 2 nights in Harlech so we met around lunchtime and after refreshments in the Trewern Arms at Nevern where we were staying 2 nights, we decided to have a walk to loosen up!!! We thought a walk around Dinas Head would be perfect. The sun was shining, it was very warm if a little breezy. So off we set! We parked at the pretty cove of Pwll Gwaelod. A long time since we've been there now.... see Coast Walk.... On the top the views were tremendous - all the way around Cardigan Bay from Strumble Head to the Llyn penins...

So pressing on now, we felt we needed to keep the mileage going up especially as we have a few days walking coming up with my niece and her hubbie in a couple of weeks and fit we are not! It was a lovely day so we thought a trip up our hills would be ideal, somewhere we know so well and where we can go as far as we feel like on the day! Off we went up Slope Road, the means by which fitness can be achieved when it's walked often enough and has been a good measure of fitness levels over the last 20 years here! The higher we walk, the better the view on days like this. In the old quarry at the valley leading up to Great Rhos, known to us as Eerie Bottom, there we found the wheatears once more, another of our summer visitors. They've been here now over several years and always pop out to say hi as we pass! The clouds looked a bit ominous as we approached Davy Morgan's Dingle....but the rain held off. It is a slightly unique eco climate in Radnor Forest! At the end of the dingle...

 As part of a little roadtrip we had arranged 2 years ago to see The Killers in Southampton, we had booked a couple of nights in Dorset, staying at Little India , an air B and B run by a lovely lady. We haven't explored Dorset except for Weymouth in search of family trees, so decided we could add a walk to our target mileage too! And what a lovely walk it was. From the b and b, it was a walk through ancient woods, once containing lime kilns and a quarry which had actually closed in the 1920's and then reopened briefly in the '50's I think, but is now a nature reserve.  We continued the walk through some residential roads and approached the sea via an old railtrack, now a path but once at the coast, the rail is there complete with a train coach cafe! The beach is the westernmost end of Chesil beach and the view of the bay from there was beautiful!
